I encountered my client through my website and quickly understood the challenges of the project and how decluttering for your health is so important. My client had been through some serious life events and, as a result, had accumulated more items than the home could reasonably hold. Also, with an imminent health issue in the family, had to declutter reasonably quickly.
When I walked through the home on my initial assessment, I learned quite a bit on what were the root causes of this accumulation. More info on the causes of clutter can be found here. Clutter can also be deadly. I talk about this in my blog post here.
We began the project by setting up tables and starting at one corner of the first area. When working with clients, it’s just a matter of choosing a starting place and beginning. Through discussion, we were able to decide what mattered in the client’s life and also, that letting go of things wouldn’t lead to lack. One of the most rewarding aspects of my life is helping people make choices in their lives that lead to a greater sense of what matters.
We finished both areas in the amount of time I estimated and arranged pickup of all donatable items as well as things that had contributed to their useful life (trash).
When we finished, my client gave me a huge hug and thanked me for changing their lives. Knowing that I am making a difference in people’s lives is one of the greatest rewards of my work.
